"We had a wonderful time. We took advantage of everything here - so much to do and see you don't even have to leave the property. This is our kind of place, with nature all around."  - Terri and Jeff

HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET AVAILABLE ... if you cannot drag yourself away from the office!

Located between the George Washington and Monongahela National Forests and within thousands of acres of natural forest, Wildernest Inn, Wildernest Lodge and Wildwood Cabin are secluded hideaways on 1200 forested acres. One can watch the hawks soaring in the sky, deer at the pond, periodic parades of wild turkey and visits by curious black bears. You can enjoy quiet time, either in the private spaces of the Inn itself or wandering through the beautiful acreage with marked hiking trails. Due to the abundant wildlife on the property hiking is restricted between the hours of 6:00pm and 7.30am in summer and 5:00pm and 8:00am in winter. Guests visiting the Inn enjoy watching the wildlife that visit the Inn at dusk and dawn. Every Sunday, (weather permitting) from April to October a guided nature walk is available to guests at 7.30am. Return to the Inn for a later hearty breakfast At the bottom of the property is the almost mile-long South Mill Creek Lake where guests can make use of the Wildernest canoe and limited fishing gear. In addition there is a two-mile nature trail around the lake for hiking or jogging and of course there's trout and bass fishing.

There are many natural attractions nearby, such as the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, the Smoke Hole and Big Bend Recreation Areas, Seneca Rocks (for rock climbing, hiking and horseback riding), Spruce Knob and both the Seneca and Smoke Hole Caverns. Nestled between the South Fork and Fisher Mountains, The Highlands Golf Course is 25 minutes from Wildernest Inn (see special package). Canoe and kayak rentals are available nearby for river trips. Flea markets, antique and craft shops are located in the nearby towns. Local fairs and festivals take place throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall. Please check the website of The Grant County Chamber of Commerce for many interesting arts and crafts stores. The Potomac Eagle train runs from Romney to Petersburg (check site for train schedules).

Close by in Pendleton County you'll find public art, galleries, and even a symphony. You might be surprised to see how cultured the real west can be! You'll find all the information about fairs, festivals, biking and hiking trails at www.visitpendleton.com.

Your hosts will be happy to advise you and give you directions to further places of interest and the many hiking trails in the area.

Please Note: A fishing license is required for fishing in South Mill Creek Lake. Fishing licenses may be obtained by calling 1-800-992-4348. You will need a credit card and driver's license available when you call.
