Location and Directions

Wildernest Inn is located 12 miles south of Petersburg, West Virginia in ROUGH RUN.

NOTE: Please follow these directions to Wildernest Inn. If using online maps like MapQuest, be sure to enter town “Rough Run” NOT Upper Tract. We ARE NOT located in Upper Tract. We are on South Mill Creek/County Hwy 9, 4 miles South of Rough Run opposite South Mill Creek Lake (there are signs to the lake posted on this road). When in doubt ALWAYS make way through Petersburg WV!

From Washington D.C.

Take I-66 West to I-81 South to Exit 296, (SHORTLY AFTER TURNING ON I-81) Rt 55 West. Follow about 50 miles to Moorefield, WV

From Baltimore, MD

Take I-70 West to Frederick and take Rt 340 South to Rt. 7 West to I-81 South to exit 296, Rt 55 West. Follow about 50 miles to Moorefield, WV. Alternative Route from Winchester…… 50W to Rt 259 to Wardensville. Rt 55W (Corridor H Highway under construction) to Moorefield.

From Moorefield, WV

Enter Moorefield at end of new Highway . Turn left at traffic lights. Continue straight on Rts 55W and 220S. Continue straight through two more traffic lights. After 2nd light it’s 7.5 miles to turning. Turn left onto Durgon Rd.(note; this is a small road so watch carefully for sign right after crossing small concrete bridge) Follow Durgon Rd for about 4.5 miles until it ‘T’ ends after crossing small one lane bridge. Turn left and you will be on South Mill Creek Rd (note about 100 yards after turning left, road will turn sharply to left again over small bridge) Follow South Mill Creek Rd for 9 miles . Sign to Wildernest on left. Take left on driveway, Inn is 1 mile up driveway. It is a very steep climb up a narrow road and best taken in low gear, but is well worth the effort when you arrive.

From Pittsburgh, PA

Take I-79 south to Rt 33 East in WV and follow to Seneca Rocks, take left onto Rt55 East to Petersburg, WV ALTERNATE RTE: Faster in time, SLIGHTLY longer in distance: Take I-79 to I-68 E . Take 28/220 South through Keyser to 93S. 93S turn left onto 42S to Petersburg ***** Preferable Route

From Charleston, WV

Take I-79 North to Rt 33 East and follow to Seneca Rocks and take left onto Rt 55 East to Petersburg,WV

From Petersburg, WV

From the traffic light in Petersburg, where Rts 55 and 220 intersect, (it will be the 2nd light when coming from Seneca Rocks) go south on Rt 220 for 8/10ths (.8) of a mile and turn left onto South Mill Creek Road. Follow South Mill Creek Road for 11.3 miles. Entrance to Wildernest is on the left and marked with a sign saying Wildernest Inn. The Inn is located one mile up the gravel and dirt driveway. It is a very steep climb up a narrow dirt and gravel road and best taken in low gear, but is well worth the effort when you arrive.

From Richmond, Charlottesville and other parts of Southern VA

Take I-64 West, to I-81 North, to Rt 33 West at Harrisonburg, VA. Take Rt 33 West into WV to Brandywine and go right on Rt 33W (note road to Sugar Grove goes to left) Continue on Rt 33 W for 6 more miles and turn right onto Troublesome Valley Rd. (Get ready to turn when you see Billboard with Burger!!!) SIGN HIGHLAND GOLF COURSE Follow for about 9 miles (It will change names to Kiser Gap Rd. but continue straight) Road ‘T’ ends. Take right and continue for 7.5 miles. Sign for Wildernest Inn is on the right. Take right up driveway. The Inn is located one mile up the gravel and dirt driveway. It is a very steep climb up a narrow road and best taken is low gear, but is well worth the effort when you arrive.

From Franklin, WV and other areas of Southern WV

Take Rt 220 North to Upper Tract , WV (about 10 miles). Entering Upper Tract at top of hill take right onto Schmucker Rd (immediately after “Upper Tract” sign). and follow for 10.6 miles to entrance to Wildernest on right.(Note road changes names to Kiser Gap road but just continue straight) At sign for Wildernest on right, turn right onto driveway, the Inn is one mile up the driveway. It is a very steep ride up a narrow dirt and gravel road, best taken in low gear, but well worth the effort when you arrive.
