"Our second visit in the last five months and certainly not our last. The beauty and hospitality are unsurpassed." - John and Dawn

Stewart and Kathy
We were both born in Southern Africa, Stewart in South Africa and Kathy in Zimbabwe.
We lived there until 1995 when, together with our two sons, we moved to the USA. For
the past seven years we have searched for that "perfect" place to work and live. Our
search ended when we discovered the beauty and tranquility of West Virginia and the
Wildernest Inn. The quietness, the star filled skies, the wide open spaces, the wildlife
and spectacular scenery, are things we'd taken for granted in Africa and we believed
these qualities would be hard to duplicate… we were wrong, we have it all here.
We look forward to sharing with you our stories of Africa and as we've traveled fairly
extensively of other lands too. We promise the photos and home videos will remain hidden!
Our family would not be complete without our much-loved and spoiled four-legged residents
at Wildernest. Squib, a docile. lovable female Jack Russell Terrier traveled with us from
Africa and three years ago we decided she needed a friend and introduced her to a male JRT
named Scud. Like his name suggests he is full of energy, always where he shouldn't be and
given the slightest encouragement can be a nuisance!! Be warned, should you "make a fuss"
he will reward you with more kisses than you probably want! Our third and probably Kathy's
favorite resident is a Himalayan cat named GoGo (not pronounced "go go", this one you'll have
to learn). The name is a term used in South Africa for any little critter/bug, etc. If
you're allergic to cats have no fear, this one you're highly unlikely to encounter. She has
an attitude and will barely tolerate other people and pets. Even Stewart has a hard time
getting noticed! The final two residents at the Wildernest are two "Rescued from Puerto Rico"
street cats. Patch and Scrunge are "brothers" who are very affectionate and spend their lives
sleeping or wandering through the woods- a great improvement to dodging motor vehicles! Be
prepared to be "followed" on your walks through the Wildernest forest, as all the pets will
take every given opportunity to go for walks!
We look forward to sharing with you our "little bit of Heaven" and our goal is to work with
you to meet your needs and provide a relaxing, beautiful and memorable stay at the
Wildernest Inn. |
